Good Directions

I think I saw some country lyrics on irrationallove’s blog the other day.  Something about a tick, I believe.  Me?  I’m partial to country songs that tell a story.  I had a short drive from the grocery store tonight, and didn’t bother to plug the iPod in.  Here’s what I heard on the local country station:

Good Directions (by Billy Currington)

I was sittin’ there sellin’ turnips on a flatbed truck
Crunchin’ on a pork rind when she pulled up
She had to be thinkin’ “This is where the rednecks come from”
She had Hollywood written on her license plate
She was lost and lookin’ for the interstate
Needin’ directions and I was the man for the job

[Chorus]
I told her way up yonder past the caution light
There’s a little country store with an old Coke sign
You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea
Then a left will take you to the interstate
But a right will bring you right back here to me

I was sittin’ there thinkin’ ‘bout her pretty face
Kickin’ myself for not catchin’ her name
I threw my hat and thought, “You fool, that coulda been love”
I knew my old Ford couldn’t run her down
She probably didn’t like me anyhow
So I watched her disappear in a cloud of dust.

[Chorus]
I told her way up yonder past the caution light
There’s a little country store with an old Coke sign
You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea
Then a left will take you to the interstate
But a right will bring you right back here to me

Is this Georgia heat playin’ tricks on me
Or am I really seein’ what I think I see
The woman of my dreams comin’ back to me

She went way up yonder past the caution light
Don’t know why, but somethin’ felt right
When she stopped in and asked Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea
Mama gave her a big ‘ol glass and sent her right back here to me

Thank God for good directions…and turnip greens

You might be a redneck if…you write a song with “turnip greens” in the lyrics…

…and I’m proud to be one.  Did I ever mention that I’m from Alabama?  🙂  May your week be filled with good directions…

  2. very cool…first time my blog has been linked in someone else’s post…as far as I know. 🙂

I recently heard the turnip greens song too…that one made me smile.

  3. It should be linked more often. Good stuff on there. I got it from livingpalm’s blog, so there’s at least one other place. (although it wasn’t a post)

  4. […] I now know.  Put lyrics to a country song that’s in the Billboard top ten.  I posted this a while back, simply because I thought it was a funny/cool song that told a funny/cool story, and […]

  5. The “TICKS” song is most likely Brad Paisley’s song, “Ticks” …. “I’d like to check you for ticks…”

  6. That’s the one. Thanks for visiting. I’m still getting about 8 hits a day thanks to that post.

  7. Thanks for the lyrics! Love the song ‘Good Directions’, and keep up the great work…
